Job summary

Burger Boat Company is seeking a Welding Process Engineer to lead continuous improvement in aluminum and steel shipbuilding, focusing on welding process capability, automation, and production efficiency. Collaborate with the Certified Welding Inspector to align process development with quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years of welding process engineering experience, preferably in shipbuilding or heavy fabrication.
• Strong knowledge of ABS Part 2: Rules for Materials and Welding and AWS D1.1/D1.2.
• Experience with welding automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and improve welding process capability and throughput across materials.
• Identify and implement automation, robotics, and advanced welding technologies.
• Design welding sequences aligned with production stages and vessel types.
• Collaborate with CWI to ensure alignment with ABS/AWS standards.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for welding issues.
• Develop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications per codes and standards.
• Provide training and technical support to welders on new procedures.
• Oversee NDT coordination and welding inspections to verify weld quality.
• Support lean initiatives and monitor KPIs related to productivity and cost.
