Job summary

Hutchinson Community College seeks a part-time lab support role for the Welding Technology program. Responsibilities include lab setup, student supervision, safety enforcement, and maintaining supplies and equipment.

You will coordinate tool room organization, prepare training aids, and manage inventory while ensuring safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment. This role requires CDL or the ability to obtain one, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree preferred; welding industry experience required.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain CDL.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to supervise students and answer questions on lab projects.
• Ability to read and follow directions and to comprehend basic instructions about the position.
• Be familiar with and able to operate common welding and fabrication equipment.
• Be an effective team member with excellent communication skills.
• Physical requirements include standing; ability to lift 60-70 lbs.; work in a hazardous environment; operate shop/industrial equipment including forklift, press brake, shear, plate roll, welders.
• Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
• Physical and mental qualifications must be achieved with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Alternative qualifications may be substituted if sufficient to perform the duties.

Responsibilities

• Support Welding Technology program: lab setup, student supervision, and enforcement of safety procedures.
• Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Supervise tool room organization as well as all special tools and hand tools.
• Build instructional training aids and prepare instructional materials.
• Maintain inventory of parts, lab consumables, classroom and lab supplies.
• Order, receive, check in, and put away consumable instructional supply inventory.
• Maintain applicable shop and lab safety standards.
• Coordinate logistics of scheduling equipment for labs and transportation of equipment between campuses.
• Arrive on time for work and comply with HutchCC policies.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Coordinator and/or Department II Chairpersons.
