Job summary

Portland Community College (PCC) seeks an instructional support professional for welding labs at the Swan Island Training Center, Vigor Shipyard. The role is 0.8 FTE with part-time hours, supporting students, setting up labs, and ensuring safety and proper equipment use.

You will lead lab procedures, assist instructors, manage inventories, procure supplies, and coordinate with vendors while maintaining safety and compliance standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of post-secondary education in a technical discipline.
• Three years of experience in the technical area; substitutions allowed year-for-year.
• Proven written and oral communication skills to assist students.
• Proven ability to lead others and evaluate performance.
• The ability to lift 50 lbs in this work environment.
• Depending on laboratory assignment, specialized knowledge or program-specific certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to students using welding equipment, tools, materials, and lab resources.
• Set up and support laboratory activities, monitor student progress, and assist with instruction and assessments.
• Train and orient students and staff on laboratory procedures, equipment operation, safety protocols, and PPE usage.
• Maintain laboratory records, inventories, and operational procedures.
• Procure supplies, equipment, and instructional materials; track expenditures and coordinate with vendors.
• Maintain welding laboratories, equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, clean operations; troubleshoot issues.
• Coordinate daily laboratory operations and oversee classified, temporary, and student employees.
