Job Description

Reports to: Director of the Warsaw Area Career Center

General Summary: To provide students with an advanced understanding of the welding industry as part of the Advanced Manufacturing cluster. Instruct students in welding practices, safety, equipment use, welding theory, and the technical skills necessary to prepare for AWS certification attainment, postsecondary opportunities, and entry into the workforce. This position works collaboratively with another welding instructor and two precision machining instructors as part of a team-based Advanced Manufacturing instructional model.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate, teach, and evaluate skills and knowledge in welding practices, focusing on safe and proper use of welding equipment, tools, materials, and related technology.
  • Create a classroom culture of high behavior expectations that cultivates hard work, professionalism, safety, and positive reinforcement.
  • Manage welding materials inventory by monitoring stock, predicting project needs, and placing orders within budgetary guidelines.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending professional development and collaborating with industry professionals.
  • Add to the collaborative culture of the Advanced Manufacturing staff, including working closely with another welding instructor and two precision machining instructors.
  • Develop effective, engaging, and hands‑on lesson plans that incorporate welding content knowledge, technical skill development, safety, equipment use, and industry expectations within the allotted time schedule.
  • Keep accurate records of student attendance, grades, skill attainment, and certification progress while fulfilling dual‑credit responsibilities and maintaining required communication and records with Vincennes University.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on individual student progress.
  • Integrate industry knowledge with academic state standards to promote student graduation while preparing students to enter the workforce or higher education in welding and advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Engage in faculty meetings and Industry Advisory Boards.
  • Support student preparation for AWS certification attainment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of WACC.
Qualifications
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Indiana Workplace Specialist License in the appropriate welding or advanced manufacturing occupational area.
  • To be eligible for an initial Indiana Workplace Specialist I License, the candidate must meet Indiana Department of Education requirements, including being at least 21 years of age, holding a minimum of a high school diploma, and having verified occupational experience in the certification area.
  • Occupational experience must meet one of the Indiana Department of Education pathways: 5,000 hours of verified experience in the last five years, or 4,000 hours of verified experience in the past ten years with an approved occupational competency measure, occupational licensure/proficiency, related degree, or completed apprenticeship/internship.
  • Candidate must have or be willing to obtain AWS certification.
  • Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to teach ALL students of varied skill levels and interests.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a classroom and welding lab effectively.
