Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector II to perform visual inspections on structural steel, pipe, and fabricated welds. You will witness welder qualification tests, review WPS/PQR, direct NDT, and sign inspection reports relied upon by engineers and building officials.

Requirements include a current AWS CWI with 2+ years of inspection experience and knowledge of D1.1 plus at least one other code (D1.5/D1.8/ASME IX/API 1104).

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working command of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting certification preferred (sponsored if not held).
• Ability to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it for retest.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records; witness tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing; write reports and nonconformance notes.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection; manage base plates and bolting where certified.
