Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector II to provide inspect/verify services for structural steel, pipe, and fabricated assemblies per AWS D1.1, D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX or API 1104 as required. You will witness welder qualification tests, review WPS/PQR, and direct NDT while generating official inspection reports.

The role requires a current AWS CWI with 2+ years of inspection experience, familiarity with the cited codes, and the ability to defend rejection decisions

Qualifications

• Must hold AWS CWI with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Experience with AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting inspector certification preferred.
• Able to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it for retest.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder performance qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing.
• Disposition indications and write repair instructions.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including high-strength bolting and base plate grouting where certified.
• Write inspection reports and nonconformance reports for the engineer of record and the building official.
