Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I who operates under a Certified Welding Inspector to verify fit-up, weld procedures, and welder qualifications on structural steel and pipe welding. The role maintains weld maps and inspection logs while ensuring compliance with AWS D1.1 or governing codes on active erection sites.

Pay ranges from $28 to $36 per hour depending on certifications, experience, and project requirements.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/welding inspection experience
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites
• Careful, consistent, and honest about what a weld looks like

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results
