Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work on structural steel and pipe welding under the supervision of a Certified Welding Inspector. The role focuses on verifying fit-up,WPS compliance, visual inspection to AWS D1.1 or governing codes, and keeping weld maps and logs.

The company supports pursuing the AWS CWI exam for eligible candidates. Pay ranges from $28 to $36 per hour, with variations by certifications held and experience.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI or 3+ years welding or inspection experience with eligibility to sit for CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing codes.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with NDT technician and record results.
