Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding, verifying fit-up, joint preparation, welder qualifications, WPS compliance, and maintaining weld maps and inspection logs.

This entry-level role offers hands-on experience toward the CWI exam, with travel to active sites and shifts aligned to erector schedules; pay ranges from $28 to $36 per hour, with overtime and project-based scheduling.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding/inspection experience.
• Ability to read structural drawings and weld symbols.
• Familiarity with WPS/PQR documents and welder qualifications.
• Physically able to work at height and in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumables, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT/MT/PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
