Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding, verifying fit-up and joint preparation, and tracking welder qualifications.

You will perform visual inspection to AWS D1.1 or governing code, keep weld maps and logs, and coordinate NDT with the NDT technician. Pay ranges from $28 to $36 per hour, with some night shifts and travel; company sponsorship for the AWS CWI exam is provided.

Qualifications

• CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding inspection experience.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Must be physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active erection sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
