Job summary

Construction Material Testing in the Grand Rapids area is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding, verifying fit-up, documenting welds, and ensuring WPS compliance.

You will perform visual inspections to AWS D1.1 or governing codes, maintain weld maps and logs, and coordinate with NDT to document inspection results. The company sponsors the AWS CWI exam for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Willingness to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Strong attention to weld quality and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervisor to standards.
• Maintain weld maps and inspection logs; record weld-to-welder relationships.
