Job summary

Construction Material Testing in Pittsburgh seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector, ensuring fit-up, WPS compliance, and visual weld inspection on structural steel and pipe.

You will maintain weld maps and logs, coordinate with NDT, and pursue AWS CWI exam sponsorship as you gain experience on active projects. The role offers hands-on training and exposure to relevant codes and standards.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification, or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and eligibility to sit for the CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Capable of working at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Accurate, methodical, and honest in weld assessment.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results
