Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, joint preparation, welder qualifications, WPS compliance, and maintain weld maps and inspection logs.

The role involves inspecting to AWS D1.1 or governing codes, reading drawings, and coordinating with NDT for testing. The company sponsors the CWI exam and offers growth toward Welding Inspector II.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and CWI exam eligibility.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Demonstrates careful, consistent inspection and honesty in weld assessment.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate nondestructive testing (UT, MT, PT) with NDT technician and record results.
