Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe projects in Texas. You will verify fit-up, perform visual inspections to AWS D1.1 or governing codes, and maintain inspection records while coordinating with NDT and other teams.

The role supports the CWI path and may involve travel to active sites. The position requires the ability to work at height, in confined spaces, and on erection sites, with pay

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or eligibility to sit for the CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings and weld symbols.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about what a weld looks like.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
