Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a CWI supervisor on structural steel and pipe projects in Texas. You will verify fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance, perform visual inspection, and document welds.

Responsibilities include maintaining weld maps and logs, coordinating nondestructive testing with the NDT technician, and ensuring reports meet AWS/D1.1 or D1.5 codes. AWS CAWI or eligibility for the CWI exam is required.

Qualifications

CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/welding inspection experience and eligibility for the CWI exam
Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents
Ability to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites
Careful and honest evaluation of weld quality

Responsibilities

Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding
Perform visual inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code
Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records
Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports
Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition
Coordinate nondestructive testing (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record the results
