Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to inspect structural steel and pipe welds under a Certified Welding Inspector. You will verify fit-up, perform visual weld checks, and ensure WPS compliance while maintaining logs and weld maps.

The role offers growth toward CWI certification with company sponsorship. You will work on active erection sites, reading drawings and weld symbols, and coordinating with NDT staff to document non-destructive testing results.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or equivalent welding inspection experience and eligibility to sit for the CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active erection sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld appearance.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1/D1.5 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate UT/MT/PT with NDT technician and record results.
