Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds. You will verify fit-up, inspect welds, and ensure WPS compliance while maintaining logs and weld maps.

The role provides a path toward CWI through company sponsorship and on-the-job experience. Responsibilities include visual inspection under supervision, certifying welder qualifications, and coordinating with NDT technicians.

Qualifications

• CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding or inspection experience and exam access.
• Ability to read structural drawings and weld symbols.
• Familiarity with WPS/PQR documents and documentation practices.
• Strong attention to detail in weld verification and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) testing and record results.
