Job summary

Spitzer Industries, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Quality Inspector III for our Brookshire, TX shop. You will master shop drawings, verify client requirements, and oversee welding quality to meet applicable codes and standards.

You will train and supervise Inspectors I and II, coordinate with clients and internal teams, and produce documentation to support quality metrics while maintaining a safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years documented quality relevant experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required at a minimum.
• Task related certifications are preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in fabrication of shop components.
• General knowledge of various codes, NDE techniques, welding, fabrication and inspection processes.
• Must be able to read and interpret shop drawings; good written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Understand and follow safety policies and procedures of the shop.
• Understand and apply QMS and NCR process per Company procedures.
• Assist with supervising Inspector I and II.
• Meet with client inspectors.
• Provide input when necessary in production status and client status meetings.
• Direct and resolve quality issues independently within department when quality management is unavailable.
• Produce reports, track, and maintain client required documentation.
• Confirm compliance to the Quality Management System Procedures and work instructions.
• Support and ensure compliance with all OSHA and HSE policies throughout the fabrication divisions.
• Read and comprehend project specifications and drawings.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections on product line as applicable.
• Ensure compliance to codes, standards and customer specifications.
• Maintain weld maps & material traceability.
• Interface with shop personnel.
• Keep QCM advised of approaching inspection witness and hold points.
• Ensure timely inspections are performed.
• Attend project meetings as required.
• Ensure stoppage of nonconforming work and unsafe work practices.
• Other duties as assigned by Quality Manager.

Job description

Applies advanced skills and knowledge that has shown through experience, training, and performance to have mastered a thorough understanding and application of shop drawing interpretation, understanding Client/Customer requirements and acceptance criteria, welding processes, dimensional tolerances, STS bar coding (Orizon Division), relevant code requirements/acceptance criteria, shop safety, tagging system, welding symbols, processes, and fabrication quality requirements. Inspector III would be able to train and supervise Inspectors I and/or II.

REPORTS TO / SUPERVISES

Reports To: Quality Lead Inspector/Quality Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will have the following general/minimum responsibilities:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

The following education, experience and knowledge are preferred for this position:

• Minimum of 5 years documented quality relevant experience is required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required at a minimum.
• Task related certifications are preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in fabrication of shop components.
• General knowledge of various codes, NDE techniques, welding, fabrication and inspection processes.
• Must be knowledgeable of various fabrication/construction codes and standards, as well as material types and usage.
• Must be able to comprehend technical information both verbal and written.
• Must have basic computer literacy.
• Must be able to read and interpret shop drawings.
• Must be cross trained and competent in multiple shop areas (fit, weld, clean, compression, and piping).
• Must have excellent communication skills to correspond with shop production and upper management.
• Must have clear verbal and writing skills with fluency for the responsibilities assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Spends 90% of time in the shop and 10% of the time in the office.
• Exposure to possible shop hazards including but not limited to welding fumes, welding arc flash, skin irritation, high noise level, debris from welding, grinding and possible exposure to hazards that would be considered typical in a fabrication industry.
• Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs. Standing 80% of the time, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, and heavy lifting, pushing and pulling while handling material not exceeding forty-five pounds.
• Intermittent sitting and operating a computer.
