Job summary

Capitol Engineering in Phoenix is seeking a Welder/Fitter 2 for our fabrication shop. This mid-level role combines MIG and Flux-Core welding with layout and fit-up from drawings across structural steel, tanks, ducting and wear components.

Experience in multi-pass welds, reading welding symbols, and working with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum is preferred. The position is on-site with standard daytime hours and a focus on quality, safety, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 5–8 years of production welding and/or fabrication experience across multiple product types.
• Active welder qualifications in all positions (1F-4F, 1G-4G) using GMAW (MIG) and FCAW per applicable code or WPS.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols for layout and welding.
• Proficiency with grinders and hand tools for material preparation and weld finishing across multiple materials.

Responsibilities

• Weld in all positions (1F-4F, 1G-4G) on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and AR plate across diverse products.
• Perform complex fit-up and assembly from drawings with minimal supervision.
• Verify WPS, filler metals, and shielding gases before each weld.
• Inspect welds to ensure conformance with drawings and acceptance criteria.
• Read drawings, interpret weld symbols, and communicate any discrepancies to Shop Lead.
