Job summary

Capitol Engineering, a leading custom fabrication shop in Phoenix, is seeking a seasoned Welder/Fitter 3 to perform complex multi-process welding across carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and AR plate. You will read blueprints, lay out large assemblies, ensure fit-up accuracy, and mentor junior welders while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational welding certification, technical degree, or completed apprenticeship strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of production welding and/or fabrication experience across multiple product types and materials in a custom fabrication environment.
• Full-position welder qualifications (1F-4F, 1G-4G) in GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux-Core), SMAW (Stick), and GTAW (TIG) per applicable welding code or company WPS, current and documented.
• Demonstrated ability to weld on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and AR plate.
• Demonstrated ability to perform advanced structural fit-up and layout using layout and measuring tools.
• Read and interpret full engineering blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to train and develop less-experienced welders and fitters, with strong safety leadership and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Advanced welding across multiple processes and materials with full procedure compliance.
• Advanced fit-up and layout on large assemblies using blueprints as reference.
• Mentor and guide junior welders and apprentices on welding techniques and safety.
• Lead by example in quality, safety, and housekeeping.
• Perform self-inspection and support QC inspections; communicate non-conformances promptly.
• Operate welding equipment and cutting tools; maintain tools and work areas.
