Job summary

Welding/Fabrication Instructor

Job Summary: Instruct high school students in practice and application of knowledge in shop safety, oxy-fuel welding and burning, arc welding (stick, MIG, TIG), plasma arc cutting, and automatic shape cutting. Layout and fit-up, blueprint reading, and weld symbols are used to fabricate a variety of metal projects. Students use various NDT and DT testing and inspection procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Must meet all qualifications for the appropriate license through the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Must have strong knowledge of the course content and be able to convey that knowledge to students.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Must submit to a criminal background check
  • Experience developing courses or online materials preferred.
  • Experience with the latest tools, technologies, and innovations in the industry preferred
Responsibilities:
  • Recognize each student’s worth and dignity and strive for educational success, including those with special needs.
  • Implement effective teaching and indicate how teaching techniques and theories meet learning styles of each student.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements such as lifting, climbing, operating equipment, and persevering in the work environment.
Teaching & Curriculum Responsibilities:
  • Participate in development and implementation of program curriculum.
  • Organize and manage the program to promote and achieve instructional purposes.
  • Use appropriate techniques, methods, and materials compatible with the curriculum and student needs.
  • Provide opportunities for students to plan, participate in, and evaluate program activities.
  • Maintain a purposeful, orderly, safe, and healthy classroom environment.
  • Develop and implement Program Pathways and displays.
  • Assist students with learning problems and seek assistance from special needs personnel or administration.
  • Provide assistance to special needs students and other students who request help.
  • Take an active part in job placement of students.
  • Maintain communication with teachers of member school districts regarding curriculum and instructional methods.
  • Articulate updates of instructional program and curriculum development with program advisory committees and industry representatives.

Professional and Community Responsibilities:

  • Serve on committees appointed by Administration for improvement of the Technology Campus.
  • Utilize school equipment and supplies properly and be accountable for physical condition of all program equipment.
  • Complete all necessary records and reports on time and accurately.
  • Attend and participate in Technology Campus faculty meetings.
  • Dress in a manner encouraging neatness and high-caliber personal hygiene habits among students.
  • Aid Administration in enforcing rules of the Technology Campus.
  • Demonstrate respect for the profession, effective teaching, and professional attributes of co-workers.
  • Regard personal information concerning the student or family as confidential and use only as an aid to attain educational goals.
  • Pursue educational and professional development opportunities.
  • Abide by the rules of the Lake County Tech Campus.

Length of Contract: 9 ½ months, Full-Time

Salary Range: Per the Union contract, depending on experience
