Job summary

Southwestern Illinois College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Welding Technology Instructor to oversee the degree and certificate program within the Technical Education division, with a July 1, 2026 start date or the first day of Fall 2026.

The instructor will teach Welding Technology courses in both traditional and virtual environments; classes are scheduled days, evenings and weekends across the district.

Qualifications

  • AAS Degree in Welding Technology preferred; AWS/CWI certification preferred.
  • Three years of verifiable welding experience in industry required; knowledge of AWS National Standards Level.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to use computers, applicable software, and Internet required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

FULL-TIME WELDING TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR

ANNOUNCEMENT: Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for the full-time, tenure track Instructor in the Welding Technology degree and certificate program within the Technical Education division. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026 or the first day of the Fall 2026 Semester (August 2026).

POSITION DESCRIPTION: In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the successful applicant will teach Welding Technology program courses (lecture and lab) in both the traditional and virtual environment. Welding Technology classes are held days, evenings, and weekends throughout the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. AAS Degree in Welding Technology preferred. AWS/CWI certification preferred.
  2. Three years of verifiable welding experience in industry required, must be knowledgeable of the AWS National Standards Level.
  3. Knowledge of and willingness to use computers, applicable software, and Internet required.
  4. Valid driver's license required.
  5. The applicant must pass a practical test to meet or exceed published Southwestern Illinois College’s minimum standards in welding. Prior teaching or technical training experience that includes teaching courses, conducting and supervising laboratory learning experiences, evaluating students’ achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation and evaluation of program effectiveness preferred.

SALARY: This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule. For example, the minimum 2026-2027 salary at Step 1 on the below Master degree column is $50,461. The actual starting salary is determined by educational attainment level and experience. Voluntary overload and summer teaching assignments may also be available which may increase the annual compensation. The college offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.
