Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Welding Engineer (Starship) in Starbase, TX to develop, qualify, and optimize welding designs for Starship launch vehicles. You will collaborate daily with design-and-build teams to enforce standardized welding practices and improve weld quality across multiple assemblies.

The role requires a hands-on engineer with experience in several welding processes, strong root-cause analysis skills, and the ability to work long hours as needed to support build schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.
• 1+ years hands-on fabrication, manufacturing or testing of welded assemblies.
• Preferred: Master’s in welding engineering and experience with multiple welding processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and optimize welding designs and processes.
• Support production on full-scale welded assemblies in a fast-paced environment.
• Interface with design, tooling, and development engineers to improve weld designs.
• Set up qualification tests and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results.
• Work with NDE to interpret weld quality on development and flight hardware.
• Develop and implement improved process controls using test/NDE feedback.
• Set up automated welding solutions to drive consistency.
• Scope out new welding technologies to improve rate, quality, and efficiency.
