Job summary

Impulse Space is seeking a Weld Engineer to help develop, qualify, and optimize welding designs and processes across laser, TIG, friction stir, and orbital welding. You will work with design and manufacturing engineers to improve welded assemblies on Helios tank, Deneb engine components, and Mira parts.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering and 2+ years of hands-on welding experience; a Master’s degree and 3+ years are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline required.
• 2+ years hands‑on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience with welded assemblies.
• Master’s degree in welding engineering preferred.
• 3+ years of hands‑on welding experience across aluminum, nickel-based, stainless steel, titanium, and copper alloys.
• 2+ years of experience with brazing, joining, and metallographic interpretation.
• Fundamental understanding of welding processes including laser, friction stir, TIG, MIG, EB, plasma, and resistance welding.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and qualify weld processes and parameters for multiple welding processes (laser, friction stir, TIG, orbital tube).
• Collaborate with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs for manufacturing.
• Implement process controls using test and NDE results as feedback.
• Support production on full-scale welded assemblies, guiding welding techniques in a fast-paced setting.
• Support on-site manufacturing of Helios tank, Deneb engine weldments, and Mira components.
• Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results.
• Work with NDE to interpret weld quality and develop advanced NDE techniques.
• Develop automated welding solutions to improve rate and consistency.
• Explore new welding technologies to improve rate/quality/efficiency.
• Assist design, manufacturing, and materials engineering with root cause analysis.
