Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach seeks a Principal Weld Engineer to lead development, qualification, and optimization of welding designs and processes, including laser beam, GTAW, friction stir, and orbital tube welding, for Helios' main tank and Deneb engine components.

You will collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers, enforce standardized procedures, and drive innovative NDE techniques and automated welding solutions to improve rate, quality, and consistency across flight hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience of welded assemblies.
• Experience with multiple welding processes and materials.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and qualify weld processes across multiple welding methods.
• Collaborate with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs.
• Set up welding qualification tests and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results.
• Support production operations and guide welders on techniques in a fast-paced environment.
• Develop automated welding solutions to drive process consistency.
• Scope out new welding technologies to improve rate, quality and efficiency.
