Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a Welding Engineer to develop welding techniques, procedures, and process controls, with focus on RSW, GMAW and DAW. The role emphasizes advancing standardization, cost reduction, and process reliability in a high‑volume automotive environment.

The candidate will lead welding development, support new line launches and coordinate with maintenance and vendors, ensuring quality and safety while leveraging experience in robotic welding and destructive testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering or equivalent understanding of resistance and arc welding.
• 1-3 years’ experience in a welding manufacturing environment; automotive preferred.
• Welding experience in RSW, GMAW and DAW on diverse steels.
• Robotic welding experience; ABB and Fanuc preferred.
• Destructive testing setup and training experience for RSW/DAW/GMAW.
• 5+ years RSW/GMAW/DAW experience in automotive welding manufacturing preferred.
• Experience with UT devices or similar inspection tech preferred.
• Excellent planning, organizational, written and verbal communication skills; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Maintain existing welding process to Challenge Manufacturing standards.
• Reduce costs through continuous improvement for safety, quality and productivity.
• Define recommended welding spare parts.
• Develop and maintain weld parameter/setup sheets.
• Support and lead new line launch verification projects.
• Work with maintenance to maintain and improve weld quality.
• Implement and test products in production equipment.
• Drive standardization across joining processes (GMAW, DAW, RSW, SPR, FDS).
• Develop training documentation for welding processes with customer quality in mind.
• Troubleshoot welding issues on production tooling.
• Develop welding schedules for GMAW, RSW on ferrous and nonferrous materials.
• Participate in design reviews for upcoming projects.
• Interface with new equipment vendors and customers (internal/external).
