Job summary

Tool & Design, Inc. is seeking a Weld Engineer to develop and apply welding expertise for automated systems, fixtures, and tooling. You will ensure weld quality, support manufacturing, and drive improvements across processes and documentation.

The role requires 3+ years in welding engineering, proficiency with AWS codes, and the ability to collaborate with designers. Occasional travel for installation and startup is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding/Mechanical/Materials Engineering or related field
• 3+ years welding engineering in manufacturing, fabrication, or automation
• Experience with AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6 and related codes
• Experience developing WPS/PQR/WPQ and welding documentation
• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, FCAW, and SMAW processes
• Strong metallurgy and distortion control knowledge
• CAD (SolidWorks) and MS Office proficiency
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally

Responsibilities

• Develop, document, and maintain welding processes, procedures, and work instructions for fabrication and assembly of equipment, fixtures, and tooling
• Select appropriate welding processes, filler metals, and consumables based on material, design, and service
• Create and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) per applicable codes and standards
• Interpret drawings, 3D models, and customer specifications to define weld requirements and ensure weldability
• Collaborate with mechanical designers and engineering teams to optimize manufacturability, cost, and quality
• Provide welding technical support during manufacturing, assembly, and installation
• Troubleshoot and resolve welding-related issues, including distortion control and weld integrity
• Support NDT requirements (visual, PT, MT, UT, RT) and coordinate with suppliers
• Ensure compliance with AWS and regulatory standards
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to welding processes, quality, safety, and productivity
