The role focuses on developing welding technologies for new products, specifying equipment, and supporting operations with welding process optimization and troubleshooting. Strong MIG/spot welding, BIW experience, and leadership capabilities are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years related experience or equivalent.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills.
  • Experience with MQ1 and QAD Database.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new welding technologies for product requirements.
  • Specify welding equipment, consumables, and robotic systems.
  • Assist in weld quality control process development.
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem solving (8-D, meetings).
  • Support tool trials at supplier and internal capability runs.
  • Assist with plant floor welding equipment integration and startup.

WELDING ENGINEER NEEDED - BRITTON, MICHIGAN AREA

A Leading Automotive Supplier near Britton, Michigan needs a Welding Engineer. This is a Full Time, Permanent, Direct Hire Salary Exempt Position offering Competitive Compensation, Bonus Potential, Good Benefits, Paid Holidays and Paid Vacation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works on Corporate strategic projects.
  • Develop new Welding Technologies related to new products requirement.
  • Support Operations in acquiring the needed level of equipment knowledge.
  • Provide key input into the development of departmental strategic goals along with identifying key measurable to support the departmental goals.
  • Specify welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and any related components associated with the welding process.
  • Assist in development of the weld quality control process.
  • Guides develops and tests welding methods, materials, processes and results.
  • Assist Quality Assurance department in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding and welding system issues.
  • Assist with MRO crib activities.
  • Support project engineering on new and existing programs.
  • Assist in the integration, start-up and debug of plant floor welding equipment.
  • Champion assigned engineering changes, communicate and coordinate accordingly to all departments.
  • Train, coach and mentor the welding process for weld engineers, manufacturing and skilled trades colleagues.
  • Direct and/or participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities (ex. 8-D reports, department meetings, etc.).
  • Review and resolve all weld cut and etch and destruct related issues.
  • Support new model launches and improvement teams.
  • Support tool tryouts at supplier and in-house capability runs.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; five years plus related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of Education & Experience.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office at an intermediate level
  • Ability to work with MQ1 and QAD Database

  • Quality leadership skills
  • Experience working across multiple manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge and exposure to non-welding functional areas
  • OEM experience with structural component and system development
  • Exposure to and experience with Projection Welding Processes
