Job summary

AUTOKINITON in Britton, MI is seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to join its corporate engineering team on a full-time basis. You will contribute to welding process development, equipment specification, and quality assurance to support new and existing programs.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 3–5 years of experience, along with MIG and spot-welding know-how; familiarity with MQ1 and QAD is a plus. We offer competitive benefits and growth opportunities.

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Three to five years plus related experience or training; or equivalent.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office at an intermediate level.
  • Experience with MQ1 and QAD database.
  • MIG and Spot-Welding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Works on corporate strategic projects.
  • Develop new welding technologies related to new products requirement.
  • Support Operations in acquiring the needed level of equipment knowledge.
  • Provide input into development of departmental strategic goals with key measures.
  • Specify welding equipment, consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems related to welding.
  • Assist in development of the weld quality control process.
  • Guide, design, develop and test welding methods, materials, processes and results.
  • Assist Quality Assurance in maintaining weld integrity and resolve welding issues.
  • Assist with MRO crib activities.
  • Support project engineering on new and existing programs.
  • Assist in integration, start-up and debug of plant floor welding equipment.
  • Champion engineering changes and communicate with all departments.
  • Train and mentor welding process staff.
  • Participate in root cause analyses and team problem solving.
  • Review and resolve weld cut/etch/destruct issues.
  • Support new model launches and improvement teams.
  • Support tool tryouts at supplier and in-house capability runs.

Responsibilities
  • Works on Corporate strategic projects.
  • Develop new welding technologies related to new products requirement.

  • Specify welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and any related components associated with the welding process.
  • Assist in development of the weld quality control process.
  • Guides design develops and tests welding methods, materials, processes and results.
  • Assist Quality Assurance department in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding and welding system issues.
  • Assist with MRO crib activities.
  • Support project engineering on new and existing programs.
  • Assist in the integration, start-up and debug of plant floor welding equipment.
  • Champion assigned engineering changes, communicate and coordinate accordingly to all departments.
  • Train, coach and mentor the welding process for weld engineers, manufacturing and skilled trades colleagues.
  • Direct and/or participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities (ex. 8D reports, department meetings, etc.).
  • Review and resolve all weld cut and etch and destruct related issues.
  • Support new model launches and improvement teams.
  • Support tool tryouts at supplier and in-house capability runs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This full-time salary-exempt role is a part of our corporate engineering team and reports to the Weld Engineering Manager.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; three to five years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to work with MQ1 and QAD database.
