Job summary

Watlow in Hannibal, MO is seeking a Welding Automation Engineering Technician to join a cross-functional technology team focused on developing automated welding processes. The role involves transitioning manual welding tasks to robust automated systems, operating welding equipment, and training production personnel on safe, repeatable processes on the shop floor.

You will work with Welding, Controls and Mechanical Engineering to optimize weld programs, parameters, and equipment settings, while

Qualifications

• Technical diploma or equivalent in Welding Technology or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on welding or manufacturing process development experience.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and weld symbols.
• Experience with automation and robotics and testing.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Safety-focused with disciplined process execution.

Responsibilities

• Operate collaborative robotic and automated welding systems for process development and production.
• Develop and optimize weld programs, profiles, torch positions, travels, and process parameters.
• Translate manual welding knowledge into repeatable automated processes.
• Set up tooling, fixtures, and welding equipment for trials.
• Execute pilot, development, qualification, and validation welds per test plans.
• Inspect welds and provide feedback to engineering.
• Record parameters, test conditions, and results in a repeatable manner.
• Support DOE, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
• Identify sources of weld variation and improvement opportunities.
• Convert development solutions into reliable production processes.
• Develop standard work, setup procedures, and training materials.
• Coach operators in setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain welding safety and process discipline.
