Job summary

Mestex in Dallas, TX is seeking a Welder (TIG / MIG) to join our manufacturing team. You will perform TIG and MIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, read blueprints, set up equipment, and support production schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational (TIG / MIG Welding)
  • Perform TIG and MIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (as applicable), in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Set up welding equipment, including:
    • Welding machines, torches, wire feeders, gas flow, and amperage settings.
  • Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols to determine weld size, location, and sequence.
  • Prepare materials for welding by:
    • Cutting, fitting, grinding, beveling, and aligning components.
  • Execute proper welding techniques to ensure:
    • Adequate penetration
    • Clean bead profile
    • Structural integrity
  • Perform fitting and tack welding to ensure proper alignment prior to final weld.
  • Operate related fabrication equipment such as:
    • Horizontal and vertical band saws
    • Grinders and pipe cutting/threading equipment
  • Adjust welding parameters as required based on material thickness and type.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, leadmen, and quality personnel to resolve fit-up or weldability issues.
  • Support production schedules while maintaining quality standards.
Quality & Documentation
  • Ensure all welds meet company quality standards, weld procedures, and applicable codes.
  • Conduct visual inspections of welds for:
    • Cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, and distortion.
  • Verify measurements using precision tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Accurately record time, labor, and work order information in accordance with payroll and job-costing procedures.
  • Complete required production, inspection, and non-conformance documentation when applicable.
  • Maintain traceability of welds and materials as required by job or customer specifications.
  • Follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and assist in qualifying or validating procedures when needed.
  • Participate in skills assessments, certifications, and re-certifications as required.
  • Immediately report quality concerns, defects, or deviations to the supervisor or welding lead.
Maintenance & Safety
  • Adhere strictly to safety, environmental, and PPE requirements in the welding and fabrication environment.
  • Inspect welding equipment, tools, and safety devices prior to use to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance, including:
    • Cleaning torches and liners
    • Replacing contact tips, nozzles, and consumables
  • Properly handle and store:
    • Gas cylinders
    • Welding rods, wire, and consumables
  • Maintain work area cleanliness and organization to exceed housekeeping standards.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, hoists, and lifting devices when required.
  • Follow lockout/tagout, hot work, and confined space procedures as applicable.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents immediately.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, efficiency, and quality.
Position Requirements:
  • 2-3 years hands on welding experience.
  • Knowledge of basic math skills.
  • Ability to read drawings and blueprints.
