Job Summary: A structural welder is responsible for welding parts and materials using FCAW, ensuring welds pass visual tests per AWS D1.1, and applying Complete Joint Penetration welds to pass Ultrasonic tests according to AWS D1.1 standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret shop details to determine specific welding requirements.
• Adjust welding equipment to specified amperage and voltage standards.
• Guide electrode or gun along weld lines, maintaining proper arc length and speed to achieve required fusion and bead quality.
• Perform welding in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using FCAW.
• Inspect welds for bead size and compliance with specifications.
• Identify finished parts with qualified welder’s identification number.
• Back gouge to sound metal on flanges and connection plates to ensure Complete Joint Penetration welds pass ultrasonic testing.
• Weld to meet visual inspection standards per AWS D1.1.
• Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and report safety issues.
• Collaborate with team members and quality control to ensure smooth production.
• Maximize productivity and meet or exceed daily goals.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current welding certification.
• Minimum 2 years welding experience.
• Experience operating an overhead crane.
• Ability to interpret welding detail drawings accurately.
• Proficiency in passing visual and ultrasonic weld tests per AWS D1.1.
• Familiarity with welding equipment and tools.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and compliance.

Physical Requirements:

• Lift and move up to 50 lbs.
• Stand, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods.
• Work in noisy environments and wear PPE as required.
