Overview
MIG and TIG welders use metal inert gas (MIG) or tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding to fuse metal parts together and operate tools such as arc welders, grinders, and buffing machines. They are also responsible for selecting and installing torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to the thickness of metal materials.
Responsibilities
- Welding: Core skill for TIG welders. Knowledge of equipment, processes, materials, gases; practical proficiency in welding thin 20 gauge stainless steel. A 20 gauge weld test is required to pass during the interview.
- Reading blueprints and schematics: Interpret blueprints and schematics accurately; minimal supervision.
- Math skills: Calculate dimensions based on blueprints and take measurements of materials.
- Hand-eye coordination: Welding requires stamina and precise hand-eye coordination to control heat and timing.
- Troubleshooting: Inspect products, identify errors, analyze root cause, and formulate solutions.
