Job summary

BAE Systems is seeking a Welder to join a dedicated team working on Type 26 frigates in Glasgow. You will weld carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MAG, MIG and FCAW, ensuring high-quality results and compliance with standards.

You will perform self-verification and follow SHE guidelines, with a shift pattern including days, nights and weekends. This role requires attendance at recruitment events in Glasgow and adherence to security vetting requirements.

Qualifications

• Must hold Modern Apprenticeship and SVQ3/City & Guilds.
• Experience in ceramic-tile welding and FCAW.
• Ability to produce welds meeting visual and NDE standards.
• Experience welding carbon-steel in 4–15 mm thickness range.
• Knowledge of SHE requirements and risk assessment.

• Produce high-quality butt and fillet welds, including with ceramic tiles.

Salary

£40,016 plus a 33% shift allowance where applicable.

Shift Patterns

• Days: Mon-Thurs, 07:00-16:30
• Nights: Mon-Thurs, 20:30-06:00
• Weekends: Fri-Sun, 07:00-19:30

Your Role

As a Welder, you will:

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium using various processes including MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW, and more.
• Produce high-quality butt and fillet welds, including work with ceramic tiles.
• Conduct self-verification of all welds to ensure quality and compliance with standards.
• Follow safe working practices, adhering to SHE requirements and effective fume-control measures.

Essential Skills

To thrive in this role, you should have:

• A Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds).
• Experience in ceramic-tile welding, Flux-Cored Arc Welding, and associated equipment.
• The ability to produce welds that meet visual and NDE examination standards.
• Skills in welding carbon-steel materials within the 4–15 mm thickness range.
• A solid understanding of SHE requirements and risk-assessment principles.
• A background in maritime, construction, manufacturing, or similar environments, including MIG aluminium welding and automated welding systems.

The Welder Team

Join a dedicated team of 6–12 welders working on the Type 26 frigates. Your SVQ3-level expertise will contribute to high-quality, complex welding solutions that support global security.
