Job summary

Piper Aircraft, Inc. is seeking a Welder I for the 2nd shift to support the production of welded aircraft parts. You will follow Piper drawings, PPS, and certifications to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

You will perform TIG welding on aluminum and steel components, inspect your own work, and share knowledge with teammates while maintaining safety and compliance with all procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion welding program or 2 years experience preferred.
  • Must pass required weld certification per AWS D17.1.

Responsibilities

  • Perform TIG welding of less complex aluminum and steel parts such as tow bars and seat handles.
  • Inspect and sign off own work using Piper inspection certifications.
  • Ability to train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions.
  • Adhere to Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Job description

Welder I - 2nd Shift Department: All Openings

Responsible for assisting the Supervisor in the production of high-quality welded aircraft parts and assemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.

Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

Maintaining compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.

Performing TIG welding of less complex aluminum and steel parts such as tow bars and seat handles.

Inspect and buying off own work using Piper inspection certifications.

Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.

Adhere, maintain and assist teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.

Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

High school diploma or equivalent

Successful completion welding program or 2 years experience preferred

Related welding experience requirements:
  • o Welder I: 2 years of experience
  • o Welder II: 2 5 years of experience
  • o Senior Welder: 5 years of experience

Must be able to pass required weld certification per AWS D17.1.

Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Use of hand and power tools as required

Follow all safety procedures

Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).

Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions

Physical Demands

Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate job specific equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out, and below.

Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions need to be controlled. Working Conditions

Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works primarily inside and may occasionally work outdoors. May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.

Interacts regularly with various staff and employees, and occasionally with vendors, suppliers, community members and regulatory agency representatives.
