Job description

Overview

Sr. Manager, Manufacturing at Piper Aircraft. Responsible for managing front line supervisors in the production of high-quality aircraft parts and assemblies, as well as the installation and testing of aircraft systems and equipment following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Meets or exceeds all planned production and delivery schedules and manufacturing performance targets while maximizing efficiency of company resources. Leads multi-disciplinary teams enforcing compliance with quality system and process specifications, work orders, travelers, required forms and paperwork, blueprints, rework/rejection tags, schedules, Aircraft Production Orders, schematics, layout & modifications sheets, engineering orders, Piper Process Spec (PPS), Piper Material Spec (PMS), Operational Methods Sheets, Material Review Board and verbal/written instructions. Monitors and manages employee performance and accountability along with operational results, while optimizing company resources to achieve company goals.

Responsibilities
  • Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks: Ensures team compliance with all Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.
  • Perform duties as the primary point of contact for all new programs and initiatives in the assigned areas including staffing, budgeting and operational performance of the areas.
  • Act as liaison between Engineering, QA, Production Control and other Manufacturing Support Teams to improve team performance and resolve problems.
  • Interfaces with all departments regarding parts, materials, and quality issues to avoid or expedite stoppages or shortages on the line.
  • Drive continuous process improvement efforts including analyzing data to improve quality of product processes, reduce costs and improve schedule attainment.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and recommend resources necessary to attain increases in production schedules across multiple departments.
  • Supervise major troubleshooting and re-work efforts to ensure quality standards are sustained.
  • Promote regular housekeeping to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Foster support for company safety programs and require use of proper safety equipment at all times; drive improvements where needed.
  • Ensure comprehensive training and cross training to minimize schedule delays due to labor constraints.
  • Enforce compliance with personnel policies; direct hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Champion continuous improvement to enhance schedule delivery, reduce late work, defects and scrap, sustain productivity improvements and drive cost reductions.
  • Perform other related duties as required by Production Directors.
  • Lead organization typically comprising 75 - 200 team members (Manager) or 200-400 (Senior Manager).

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Associate or bachelor\'s Degree and minimum of five (5) years management experience in operations or related discipline is preferred.
  • Manager Experience requirements: 5-10 years of related experience; Senior Manager: ≥ 10 years of related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamentals of aircraft assembly and/or mechanics
  • Working knowledge of Windows based computers and programs necessary to perform the duties
  • Ability to apply basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime and weekends
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with related manufacturing processes, hand tools, power tools, and PPE, including proper fit and use of respirators as required
  • Follow all regulatory compliance, safety, and environmental procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, sound judgment and effective interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Adhere to Piper Drawings, PPS and other manufacturing instructions

Physical Demands

Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform required tasks with adequate vision and dexterity; may involve long periods of sitting, standing and walking; ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach as needed.

Employee may occasionally lift up to 35 pounds and rarely over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to pass a Company administered vision exam.

Mental Demands

Ability to foster collaborative relationships, work well under pressure, organize and synthesize new information, prioritize tasks, exercise critical thinking and effective communication; ability to multi-task and manage interruptions while maintaining attention to detail.

Working Conditions

Works primarily indoors; may occasionally be outdoors; exposure to odors, dust, fumes, chemicals, sharp objects, moving equipment, and variable temperatures. Regular interaction with staff, vendors, and regulatory representatives.
