Job summary

Delta Constructors in Watford City, ND is looking for a Welder Helper to assist welders and connect metal parts in all weather conditions. You will operate hand and power tools, lift and position pipe, and prepare welds for quality results on heavy projects.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, OSHA 10 and H2S knowledge, and a willingness to work a non-rotational schedule six days a week, 12 hours per day. Training opportunities may be available on site.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Experience with welding and cutting equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

  • Lifts, moves, clamps pipe and fittings.
  • Squares and levels fittings for welding.
  • Cleans weld joints and prepares surfaces.
  • Operates cutting torch and beveling equipment.
  • Maintains clean, orderly work area and safety practices.

Job description

Brief Description:

The Welder Helper is responsible for assisting the Welder join or connect various types of metal parts. The incumbent will operate both hand and power tools, while working in all types of inclement weather conditions. Job tasks and assignments may vary on a daily basis.

  • 6 days per week, 12 hour per day

Essential Job Functions:
  • Lifts, moves, holds or clamps pipe and fittings.
  • Squares and levels fittings for welding
  • Cleans weld joints to remove impurities such as slag, rust, and grease, using wire brush or portable grinder.
  • Connects hoses from hand torch and beveling machine to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders or connects cables from power source to electrode holder.
  • Operates cutting torch and beveling machine.
  • Starts diesel engine to active welding generators
  • Cleans welds of slag and bb’s
  • Tags or marks finished spools
  • May attach slings to finished spools to move out of work area
  • Maintain orderly work area and help welder roll up to change work location.
  • Ability to attend training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by departments
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, or Equivalent
  • One (1) year electrical experience; industrial industry preferred
  • Current and valid driver’s license, with clean driving record required depending on location
  • Current OSHA 10 and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) certificates or be able to obtain upon hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of welding
  • Knowledge of proper use of oxygen/acetylene cutting equipment, preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment such as welder torch, electrode holder, drill press, gas welding and welding electrode, etc.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and safety regulations and industry practices related to equipment use and operation
  • Skilled in daily maintenance of machines including repairs and inspecting equipment to identify possible problems
  • Ability to use time and equipment efficiently in order to complete projects on time
  • Ability to handle stress and possess positive trait even in difficult or challenging situations
