Job summary

Peak Utility Infrastructure seeks a Welder to perform welding in the garage and support client-specific tasks. The role requires understanding and applying project standards, procedures, and safety policies while assisting operational teams.

Responsibilities include welding in multiple positions, using welding equipment, and ensuring quality by inspecting materials and following drawings. Candidates should have a high school diploma and welding experience; bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Works with specialized equipment including welding and other necessary tools.
  • Works safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers, and dump trucks.
  • Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Examines workpieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds, or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Selects and installs torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
  • Determines required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Marks or tags material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
  • Prepares all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Preheats work pieces using torches to then guide and directs flames or electrodes on or across work pieces to connect pipe.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisors.
  • Cleans or degreases parts, using wire brushes, and portable grinders.

The Welder is responsible for welding in the garage. This position is responsible for understanding, supporting, and assisting the operational teams assigned with client specific tasks, standards, specifications, and thorough understanding of all department operating policies and procedures.

Success Factors
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
Experience And Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent desired
  • Previous Welding Experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
