Job summary

Henkels & McCoy West seeks an experienced Welder Foreman to lead welding crews on utility, pipeline, industrial, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects across Hawaii. You will supervise field welding operations, ensure compliance with quality and safety standards, and coordinate with project management, inspectors, subcontractors, and clients.

The ideal candidate has strong welding background, can read construction drawings, manage schedules, oversee quality control, and maintain welding

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 7+ years of welding experience in industrial, pipeline, utility, mechanical, or heavy civil construction.
  • 3+ years of supervisory or foreman experience leading welding crews.
  • Ability to read blueprints, piping drawings, isometrics, and welding specs.
  • Strong welding quality control and inspection knowledge.
  • Experience managing field productivity, schedules, manpower, and project resources.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and mentor welders, pipefitters, and labor personnel.
  • Plan daily activities and allocate manpower, equipment, and materials for productivity and quality.
  • Ensure safe, efficient work per project specs.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and JHAs.
  • Coordinate with foremen, superintendents, project managers, and safety staff.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, piping isometrics, structural drawings, welding symbols, and specs.

Position Summary:

Henkels & McCoy West (HMW) is seeking an experienced Welder Foreman to lead welding crews supporting utility, pipeline, industrial, renewable energy, and infrastructure construction projects throughout Hawaii. This position is responsible for supervising field welding operations, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, coordinating work activities, and serving as a primary point of contact with project management, inspectors, subcontractors, and clients.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong welding background who can read and interpret construction drawings, manage schedules and manpower, oversee quality control, and successfully maintain welding qualifications under ASME B31.3 Process Piping and API 1104 Welding of Pipelines and Related Facilities standards.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead, direct, and mentor crews of welders, pipefitters, and labor personnel.
  • Plan daily activities and allocate manpower, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and quality.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Coordinate with General Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, and Safety personnel to achieve project objectives.
Welding Operations
  • Perform and oversee welding activities utilizing SMAW, GTAW (TIG), FCAW, and GMAW processes.
  • Verify work is being completed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), project specifications, and client requirements.
  • Review weld maps, inspection reports, repair logs, and quality documentation.
  • Ensure welds meet visual, radiographic, ultrasonic, and other quality-control acceptance criteria.
  • Troubleshoot welding and fabrication issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Planning & Print Reading
  • Read and interpret:
    • Construction drawings
    • Piping isometrics
    • Structural drawings
    • Welding symbols
    • Specifications and contract documents
  • Verify dimensions, layouts, material requirements, and installation sequencing.
  • Assist with project planning, work package development, and execution strategies.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 7 years of industrial, pipeline, utility, mechanical, or heavy civil construction welding experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or foreman experience leading welding crews.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, piping drawings, isometrics, and welding specifications.
  • Strong understanding of welding quality control processes and inspection requirements.
  • Experience managing field productivity, schedules, manpower, and project resources.
  • Excellent communication and customer-relations skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel and work throughout the Hawaiian Islands as project needs require.
Required Welding Certifications & Testing

Successful candidates must have the ability to pass, maintain, and perform work under the following standards:

ASME B31.3 Process Piping Qualifications
  • Ability to perform and supervise welding activities in accordance with ASME-qualified procedures.
  • Experience with carbon steel and stainless steel pipe welding applications.
  • Ability to pass project-specific pipe welding qualification tests as required.
API 1104 Qualifications
  • Ability to pass and maintain welding qualifications in accordance with API 1104 standards.
  • Experience leading pipeline welding crews preferred.
  • Understanding of radiographic testing, weld acceptance criteria, weld repair procedures, and quality documentation requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding field environments.
  • Ability to work at heights, in trenches, and in confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including welding gear, fall protection equipment, and respiratory protection.
  • Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions across Hawaii.

Hourly Range: $45/hr to $70/hr (dependent on level of experience)
