Job summary

Henkels & McCoy West is seeking a skilled Welder to support utility and pipeline construction across Hawaii. You will perform welding, fabrication, installation, and maintenance on carbon and stainless steel per project specs and standards.

The role requires field experience, strong safety commitment, and the ability to pass welding qualifications under ASME B31.3 and API 1104. Travel across the Hawaiian Islands is expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years welding experience in industrial, utility, pipeline or heavy construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and welding procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and GMAW welding on varied projects.
  • Read welding symbols, blueprints, isometrics, piping layouts and fabrication drawings.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair piping systems and related equipment.
  • Carry out fit-up, tack welding, root passes, fill passes and cap welds in multiple positions.
  • Ensure welding activities meet project specs and quality standards.
  • Conduct pre-job inspections of welding equipment and maintain tools safely.
  • Support hydrostatic and pressure testing and commissioning as required.
  • Coordinate with foremen, QC, and project management teams.
  • Maintain weld maps, test records, and weld-tracking documentation.
  • Follow safety procedures and participate in JHAs and safety meetings.
  • Perform field work in varying weather and remote Hawaii locations.

Position Summary:

Henkels & McCoy West (HMW) is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Welder to support utility, pipeline, industrial, and infrastructure construction projects throughout Hawaii. The Welder will perform high-quality welding, fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance activities on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other applicable materials in accordance with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive field construction experience, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to successfully pass and maintain required welding qualifications under ASME B31.3 Process Piping and API 1104 Welding of Pipelines and Related Facilities standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform SMAW, GTAW (TIG), FCAW, and GMAW welding processes on various construction and industrial projects.
  • Read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, isometric drawings, piping layouts, and fabrication drawings.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair piping systems, structural components, and related equipment.
  • Perform fit-up work, tack welding, root passes, fill passes, and cap welds in multiple positions.
  • Ensure all welding activities comply with project specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct pre-job inspections of welding equipment and maintain tools in safe operating condition.
  • Support hydrostatic testing, pressure testing, and commissioning activities as required.
  • Work closely with Foremen, General Foremen, Quality Control personnel, and Project Management teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to weld tracking, weld maps, and testing records.
  • Follow all company, client, OSHA, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Participate in daily job hazard analyses (JHAs), safety meetings, and operational planning discussions.
  • Perform field work in varying weather conditions and remote project locations throughout Hawaii.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial, utility, pipeline, petrochemical, or heavy construction welding experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and welding procedures.
  • Strong understanding of welding metallurgy and fabrication practices.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Hawaiian Islands as project needs dictate.
Required Welding Certifications & Testing

Successful candidates must be able to pass, maintain, and perform work under the following welding qualification standards:

ASME B31.3 Process Piping Qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to perform welds in accordance with ASME-qualified Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Ability to pass applicable pipe welding qualification tests, including:
    • Carbon steel pipe
    • Stainless steel pipe (as required)
    • Multiple welding positions
    • Visual inspection and destructive/non-destructive examination requirements
API 1104 Qualification
  • Ability to pass pipeline welding qualification tests under API 1104 standards.
  • Experience welding oil, gas, utility, or transmission pipelines preferred.
  • Ability to complete:
    • Open-root pipe welds
    • Multiple position weld tests
    • Radiographic (X-ray) acceptance requirements
    • Bend or mechanical testing requirements, as applicable
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding field environments.
  • Ability to work at heights, in trenches, and in confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including welding gear, fall protection equipment, and respiratory protection.
  • Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions across Hawaii.

Hourly Range: $40/hr to $60/hr (dependent on level of experience)
