Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience in multiple welding positions and processes and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and precision in a heavy-plate manufacturing environment.

The Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welds on carbon steel and stainless steel using a variety of welding processes including FCAW in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, as well as GTAW. This position involves the setup and operation of automatic, semi-automatic, and manual welding equipment. Welders are expected to follow technical drawings and specifications to ensure that all work meets Holtec’s rigorous quality standards.

Minimum required qualifications include: High School diploma or GED required. Minimum of 2–4 years of welding experience in a heavy plate manufacturing or industrial environment. Ability to perform and pass FCAW weld tests in 2G and 3G positions is required. Demonstrated proficiency with FCAW and GTAW on carbon and stainless steel. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical documentation. Working knowledge of AWS standards and industry best practices.

Additional desirable qualifications: Previous certification to ASME Section IX and/or AWS D1.1/D1.6. Experience in nuclear or high-spec industrial fabrication environments. Multi-process welding experience (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, SAW) is a plus. Familiarity with digital weld documentation and inspection tools.

Specific Areas of Responsibility: Perform all work in a safe manner in compliance with Holtec’s safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Prepare, position, align, and fit materials for welding based on engineering drawings, work orders, and WPS (Weld Procedure Specifications). Execute welding operations in all required positions, ensuring high-quality welds that meet visual and X-ray inspection standards. Use tools of measurement and layout techniques to confirm part dimensions and tolerances. Layout, tack weld, heat-bend, clamp, grind, and bolt components to ensure accurate preparation and alignment prior to welding. Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding process to avoid material distortion or overheating. Visually inspect welds for defects, ensuring adherence to AWS and Holtec quality standards. Operate a range of welding equipment (manual, semi-automatic, and automatic), including GTAW, FCAW, SAW, and plasma arc. Safely handle materials and parts using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with housekeeping and safety standards.

*Must pass pre-employment weld tests administered in accordance with Holtec’s WPS requirements. May be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, or travel based on production needs.
