Welder II

Purpose:

  • Valkyrie Enterprises is looking for a Welder in our Norfolk, VA office. They will play a key role in welding on Naval Ships.
  • The Welder will fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms such as foundations, bulkheads, and frames within the hull of ships. They will use drawings and specifications to plan welding operations and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Job Description:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and sketches. Use drawings and specifications to plan welding operations.
  • Ensure work complies with relevant codes and standards.
  • Understand and interpret welding symbols in accordance with MIL-STD 22D.
  • Perform skilled welding on steel and aluminum, including repair and alteration of vessels and equipment.
  • Locate and mark reference lines.
  • Fabricate templates for metal structures.
  • Set up and use portable torches and plasma cutters.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Mentor junior welders in drawing interpretation, joint design, and welding techniques.
  • Oversee junior welder workmanship inspectors.
  • Learn documentation of fit-up, welds, and inspections.
  • Follow OSHA and safety policies.
  • Travel to job sites as needed, possibly utilizing a company vehicle.
  • Work beyond standard hours, including weekends.
  • Perform fire watch duties.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Trade school with 5+ years of experience.
  • Pass weld qualifications (2G, 3G, 4G) for SMAW and GMAW processes.
  • Meet NAVSEA 248 requirements by passing MIL-STD 1689 T9074-AR-GIB-010-278.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Ability to obtain a passport.
  • Welding certifications, especially with GMAW Aluminum, SMAW, TIG, FCAW.
  • Brazing experience.
Security Requirements:
  • Eligible for and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Travel Requirements:
  • Up to 50% travel nationwide, possibly internationally.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary identification credentials, such as REAL ID.
Physical Requirements:
  • Lift and transport equipment (minimum 20 lbs).
  • Work in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme conditions.
  • Work on ships at sea for extended periods.
  • Operate trucks, forklifts, and man-lifts.
  • Stand, walk, climb, and perform other physical tasks regularly.
  • Work in high heat, humidity, and noisy environments.
