Job summary

PBSGC Marine Group is seeking a Welder for a dredge operating on the lower Mississippi River. The role requires field/maintenance welding, fabrication capabilities, and strong teamwork with dredge personnel.

Duties include daily dredge reporting and welding repairs in outdoor marine conditions. The position features demanding 12-hour shifts over 14 days with 7 days off, and a benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance and a 401(k).

Qualifications

• Experience in field or maintenance welding, as opposed to shop welding.
• Fitting and fabrication experience.
• Willing to work a 12-hour shift for 14 days straight, followed by 7 days off.
• Willing to work outside the scheduled hitch as conditions require and regulations permit.
• Flexibility to work on other vessels, job sites or locations within the company as needed.
• Ability to lift items weighing at least 125 pounds.
• Able to climb ladders and perform repetitive bending and stooping.
• Must complete a post-offer physical and a functional capacity test with a physical therapist.
• Comfortable working over water and willing to participate in water rescue.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with dredge personnel.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to provide reliable transportation to and from the job site.

Job Description

Dredge Welder position on a dredge operating on the lower Mississippi River. Primary dredging season is spent between Baton Rouge, LA and New Orleans, LA, with winter maintenance in Memphis, TN. Successful applicant must be available for consistent duty and will report primarily from Memphis, TN south.

Welder must have experience working as a welder in a marine environment. The position involves severe duty marine conditions, including inclement weather. Welder must communicate and work well with others, including tender boat and dredge personnel, and must have safe work experience and be familiar with recognizing and mitigating hazards in the workplace. Welder must have a good understanding of, and the ability to perform, maintenance and repair welding as well as fabrication in a difficult outdoor and marine environment, including welding overhead and on or in pipe.

Position reports daily on the dredge and includes either nights or days, with some shift rotation. The schedule includes days, nights, weekends and time off. A typical hitch is a 12 hour shift for 14 days straight, followed by 7 days off.

• Must be comfortable working over and adjacent to water and willing to participate in water rescue
• Must be motivated and a self-starter, with the communication and interpersonal skills to work closely with dredge personnel
• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Ability to provide reliable transportation to and from the job site
