Job summary

Jeffrey Sand Company in North Little Rock, AR seeks a dredge/towboat deckhand to perform general labor and assist in safely operating and maintaining the dredge and towboat under supervisor guidance.

Responsibilities include dredge, barge, and towboat housekeeping; handling lines and cables; maintenance and repair of machinery; chipping and painting; and upkeep of safety equipment. After a 60-day probation, a benefits package including health, dental, life, vision insurance and a 401k is offered.

Qualifications

• Familiarity and comfort with work over and adjacent to water.
• Ability to work in severe weather conditions.
• Ability to work 12-hour days.
• Ability to work Saturdays.
• Ability and willingness to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Job description

The dredge/towboat deckhand will perform all general labor type work and duty required to safely operate and maintain the dredge and towboat as directed by supervisor.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Dredge, barge, and towboat housekeeping
• Handling lines and cables for barges and anchors
• Maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment
• Chipping and painting
• Maintenance of all safety equipment

Work will be performed on a dredge on the Arkansas River, being done primarily above or adjacent to water.

• Ability to work during severe conditions including inclement weather
• Ability to 12 hours per day

• Ability and willingness to do manual labor including lifting items as heavy as 50 pounds
