Job description

Experienced Deckhand – Dredge Wallace McGeorge

PBSG is seeking a dynamic experienced deckhand to operate in the navigable waterways of the Mississippi Valley. The role involves cleaning, chipping, painting, working at heights over 6ft, tying lines, and operating winches. A minimum of two years' marine experience on the Mississippi River and tributaries is required. The position entails general labor onboard a liveaboard dredge and requires working in extreme weather conditions, including snow, ice, heat, rain, and fog.

Responsibilities include:

• Housekeeping onboard the dredge
• Handling lines and cables
• Chipping and painting, and supporting other functions
• Working at heights over 6ft
• Tying lines and operating winches
• Maintaining safety standards and promoting safe work practices
• Supporting team learning and embracing PBSG's culture

Qualifications:

• At least two years' marine experience on the Mississippi River and tributaries
• Knowledge of marine duties and safety procedures
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Boater's Education certifications are beneficial but not required; PBSG will assist in obtaining them

Requirements:

• Valid driver's license and high school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in chipping and painting, handling lines, welding, or working with winches for at least two years
• Willing to live onboard for two weeks on, one week off
• Ability and willingness to work 12-hour shifts totaling 84 hours per week
• Must complete a Functional Capacity Exam and be deemed fit for duty
• Manual labor capability, including lifting up to 76 pounds
• Comfort working over water, swimming ability, reliable transportation
• Willing to work day/night shifts, climb ladders, and perform repetitive tasks
