About the Opportunity
Under direct supervision, performs welding applications ranging from simple to complex. Welds metal components for various trailers including Utility, Cargo, Gooseneck, Flatbed, and Dump trailers. Conducts visual and in-process inspections according to quality specifications. Develops skills to read and interpret blueprints. Assists in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and solving welding problems. Supports team objectives and learns to pass welding tests and qualifications in accordance with company procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform work safely and professionally, report unsafe practices.
- Learn and understand layout, assembly, and welding procedures.
- Complete reports related to scrap, safety, quality, work orders, inventory, and cycle counts.
- Use bolts, clamps, and tack welds to secure parts for welding.
- Assemble parts by bolting as needed.
- Perform bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds; recognize team lifting opportunities.
- Learn techniques for repairing products through dismantling, straightening, reshaping, cutting, and reassembling.
- Use or learn to use fabrication equipment such as plasma cutters and cutting torches.
- Ensure weld quality, set up and run structural welds, read drawings, and operate welding equipment.
- Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting welding issues.
- Adhere to quality programs, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Preferred: Technical courses, vocational or technical institutes, community colleges, welding schools, or military training.
- Strong understanding of blueprints, welding specifications, and procedures.
- Ability to use measurement devices like squares, levels, and tape measures.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Good communication skills with supervision and team members.
- Experience with repair welding using fabrication tools like cutting torches and grinders.
- Basic math skills for material calculations.
- Learn to operate fabrication support equipment such as cranes, hoists, and lift tables.
