Job summary

nVent in Oregon, WI is seeking a welding associate to assemble metal components for modular buildings and equipment enclosures on the shop floor or outdoors. You’ll handle electrode insertion, arc initiation, and manual welding to meet fusion and bead specifications while following safety protocols.

You’ll weld mainly in the flat position and gradually learn horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions, working with lighter metal thickness. Team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • One year certificate or six months related experience needed.
  • Be able to weld in flat position and learn other positions.
  • Able to read and follow welding specs and safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and insert electrode, start power, and form welds per spec.
  • Welds to meet specified fusion and bead size; detect quality by sound/color.
  • Assist with positioning, clamping, and tacking pieces in fixtures.
  • Operate plasma cutter and grinders; maintain clean work area.
  • Follow safety protocols and contribute to a collaborative team.

Summary

Welding position assisting with handling, positioning, and tacking together metal components consisting of structural shapes, plate, and light gauge structural components for modular buildings and equipment enclosures, working on shop floor, or outdoors on grounds and work pods.

What Will You Experience In This Position
  • Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
  • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified in welding machine operations manual.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Welds mostly in flat position, but is learning horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. Is mostly limited to working with the lighter thicknesses of metals. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Assists to position and clamp work pieces together in jigs or fixtures.
  • Tacks assemblies together.
  • Safely operates associated welding equipment such as hand held plasma, cutting torch, and grinders. Has or will receive forklift operation certification.
  • Other material handling limited to light duty jib cranes.
  • Endeavors to create a workplace environment that is enjoyable, engenders pride in the product and focus on the customer, and provides room for individual responsibilities and ideas.
You Have

One year certificate from college or technical school, or six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Schedule

6:00 am - 4:30pm Monday thru Thursday. Up to 10 hours on Fridays, as needed.
