Job summary

Setting up components according to specifications for welding and working closely with the Machine Shop manager to determine the best course of action

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Proven welding experience.
• Experience using TIG, MIG etc.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
• Knowledge of safety standards and proper PPE usage.
• Apprenticeship program completion is required.
• AWS welding certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and drawings and take/read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
• Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws).
• Operate angle grinders to prepare parts for welding.
• Align components using calipers, rulers, and clamps.
• Weld components in various positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead).
• Repair machinery and components by welding and filling gaps.
• Test and inspect welded surfaces and maintain safety.

The main role of this position is to read blueprints and drawings, choose appropriate materials, take the appropriate measurements to plan layout and procedures of welding jobs and to determine appropriate equipment and welding methods based on requirements. Setting up the components according to specifications for welding and working closely with Machine Shop manager to determine best course of action and machinists is key to the success in this position.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout andprocedures

• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements

• Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)

• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded

• Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces

• Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in variouspositions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)

• Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps

• Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws

• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

Requirements

• High School Diploma Or Equivalent

• Proven experience as welder

• Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG etc.)

• Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)

• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings

• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face shield, gloves, etc.)

• Deftness and attention to detail

• Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required

• Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus
