Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of manufacturing engineering directly working with Welding/Fabrication processes.
  • Experience setting up and operating state-of-the-art Welding/Fabrication equipment.
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks or another mechanical CAD system.
  • Willing to travel 75% from a major US based airport.
  • Lean concepts knowledge and safety-conscious design practice.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and design manufacturing processes for Welding/Fabrication parts with input from stakeholders and OEMs.
  • Improve OEE via SMED, TPM, and lean initiatives on new and existing equipment.
  • Drive capital equipment strategy, Buy2Make spending, and machine utilization.
  • Create and deploy Welding/Fabrication Excellence Playbook with OpCos.
  • Lead development and deployment of new technologies to drive productivity.
  • Support layout optimization, tool selection, and supplier interactions for production tooling.
  • Perform root cause analyses and implement corrective actions for non-conformances.

Job description

Reporting directly to the Dover Senior Director, Advanced Manufacturing, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for executing the manufacturing roadmap for optimizing Welding/Fabrication processes, proper use of the equipment, design specifications, setup reviews, and new control strategies. The position is responsible for leading and ensuring new equipment purchases are specified, sourced, qualified, and properly transitioned into mass production, meeting Dover and customer requirements and timing.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Analyze and design manufacturing processes for Welding/Fabrication parts by applying knowledge of product design, assembly, tooling, and materials and gathering input from stakeholders, and equipment OEMs.
  • Support and partner with OpCo’s for improving OEE through initiatives such as SMED, TPM, etc. for new and existing equipment.
  • Work on Dover corporate strategy to work with OpCo’s to drive productivity by internalizing spending (Buy2Make) on new capex and on existing equipment by maximizing machine utilization for Welding/Fabrication equipment.
  • Create Welding/Fabrication Excellence Playbook and partner with OpCo’s to drive maturity journey.
  • Provide technical development and deployment for new technologies related to Welding/Fabrication process to drive productivity improvements.
  • Drive and support Welding/Fabrication strategy on productivity improvement by maximizing
  • Assist in the evolution of the equipment and performs acceptance evaluation accordingly.
  • Identify, recommend, procure, and install machine shop equipment as well as ensure all equipment is thoroughly maintained and calibrated
  • Support work force utilization, space requirements, workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Continuously improve, provide recommendation on upgrade of equipment to maximize asset utilization.
  • Interface with tooling supplier to ensure use of proper tooling for production. Work with suppliers to develop better cutting tools for specific PM applications.
  • Develop Welding/Fabrication capability in-house while making changes to enhance the machine functionality.
  • Identify, develop, and deploy new Welding/Fabrication methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule
  • Utilize lean manufacturing methodology for process development and problem solving
  • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances are identified and deploy corrective actions
  • Helping and supporting manufacturing, to achieve safety, quality, efficiency and throughput goals, identifying opportunities to improve.
  • Apply Project Management skills & tools to lead and support capital equipment/improvement projects.
  • Investigate equipment performance and identify any problems for corrective actions and solutions.
  • Writes/revises User Requirement Specs, Functional Requirement, Design Specs, Qualifications, etc.
  • Supports Factory and Site Acceptance Tests, Machinability Studies, and validation protocols.
  • Responsible for review and approve PFMEA, DFMEA, PPAPs, and Standard Operating Procedures SOP and ensure that manufacturing and operations comply with.
  • Utilize continuous improvement methodology to improve internal processes.
  • Must be able to interact constructively across the whole organization to identify issues and implement improvements.
  • Hands-on support of new product and new process launch.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Travel requirement 75% to manufacturing sites
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements/Desired Characteristics
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of manufacturing engineering directly working with Welding/Fabrication processes.
  • Experience setting up and operating state-of-the-art Welding/Fabrication equipment
  • Extensive experience in Welding/Fabrication Equipment – TIG, MIG, Laser Welding, Press Brake, Laser Cutting, Blanking & Bending Automation, Turret Punch Press, etc.
  • Well versed in standard machine shop manufacturing processes and set ups
  • Willing and able to travel 75% from a major US based airport
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks or another mechanical CAD system
  • Highly experienced with variety of precision conventional and advance metrology systems (CMM’s, 3D imaging etc.)
  • Strong commitment to proper safety precautions in design and practice
  • Strong understanding of Lean concepts.
