Florida East Coast Railway is seeking a Welder in Saint Augustine, FL to support maintenance, repair, and construction of rail track. Training will occur in New Smyrna Beach before returning to St.

Augustine for on‑the‑job training, with a starting pay of $28.48/hr and potential to $33.50/hr after qualification. Work is scheduled Tue–Fri, 7:00–18:00, with on‑site duties and a focus on safety and compliance with FRA rules.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED or equivalent
• CDL Class B required by state/federal law
• Must be able to operate railway highway motor vehicles
• Willing to work non-standard hours and shifts
• Must meet FRA Track Safety Standards Part 213 Subparts A–G, A&B qualifications
• Must complete FRA trainings and tests within 30 working days
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience in track maintenance (Class 4 or higher)
• Must qualify to operate FEC MOW vehicles and obtain necessary permits

Overview

Under the direction of a Track Supervisor, or other company official, this position is engaged in welding and related tasks that support the maintenance, repair, and construction of freight and passenger railroad track with a “safety first” focus.

Start date scheduled for October 5, 2026. Paid training will commence in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for two (2) weeks; thereafter, new hire Welder will return to their home location (St. Augustine) for on-the-job training.

0700-1800 Tuesday-Friday

Starting pay is $28.48/hr. After qualification goes up to full pay at $33.50/hr.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Direct and instruct equipment operators in safe and efficient work performance, guaranteeing compliance with all rules, regulations and instructions.
• Responsible for training welder helpers to provide safe and efficient relief for position.
• Ensure all tools, equipment, materials, and supplies are maintained, used and stored properly.
• Prepares and maintains payroll, production reports, accident and injury reports, personnel reports, and all other required records.
• Always Adhere to all FEC Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Other duties or tasks as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS

• The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear or smell.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and valid credentials required by federal and state laws, including CDL Class B.
• Will be required to operate railway highway motor vehicles.
• Ability to work a non-standard work week, overtime, and various shift work
• Be familiar with and understand FRA Track Safety Standards Part 213 Subpart A to G, as published by the Federal Railroad Administration; must have A & B qualifications.
• Complete annual training and pass safety and track worker rules examinations.
• Must have at least one year of responsible supervisory experience in track maintenance in Class 4 or higher.
• Must be capable of operating all FEC Maintenance of Way vehicles in its fleet, both manual and automatic, and must qualify and secure motor car maintainer permit.
• Upon employment, new employees must successfully complete and pass all FEC Rules Classes: Safety, Operating, and Roadway Worker. Must complete all requirements to obtain FRA A & B certifications and pass test within 30 working days.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
